Job Description

Basic Functions:

Prepares plates use in offset printing and visually examines plates for quality, content and verifies they are free of defect.

Responsibilities:

• Produces press plates using current platemaking technology
• Inspects completed proofs and plates for quality and content; visually examines plates for defects and delivers plates meeting established criteria
• Compares measurements and appearance of plates to prepress proofs and vinyls to verify accuracy of positioning and presence of artwork and type for each color
• Understands plate layouts, dies and the plate making process and theory
• Preps jobs by pulling and inspecting standing vinyls and coating blankets
• Requests vinyls and plot and cut coating blankets as needed
• Pull production samples as requested by planning staff
• Maintains production flow by staying on schedule
• Works independently to meet schedule demands
• Understands job ticket and verbal instructions
• Follows established procedures and applies general technical standards and concepts
• Performs daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on equipment
• Follows safety rules and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition
• Proactively offers assistance to others and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education Level Required or Equivalent:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent of three to five years related experience and / or training

Skills Required:

Language Skills

• • Strong interpersonal and verbal skills
  • Must be familiar with special terminology involving job
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, job tickets and procedure manuals

Computer Skills

• • Basic familiarity and experience with plate making systems – previous experience with Heidelberg Prinect and Signa Station a plus

Mathematical Skills

• • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Disposition skills

• • Present a professional and friendly interface with other departments
  • Maintain a positive attitude and harmony within team and other departments
  • Perform a variety of duties, as needed, with a sense of enjoyment and ownership

Judgment Required:
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
